York nap May 11: Samburu can make successful handicap debut at Dante Festival

They’re back under way for the first day’s racing of the season at York on Wednesday, May 10 and Planet Sport’s Jonathan Doidge has headed to the Knavesmire for his tip.

I've had many happy times at York's spring meeting, or as it's now called 'Dante Festival' over the years and I'm hoping that on Wednesday I'll be there to cheer home another winner in the form of Samburu (16:10).
The John and Thaady Gosden-trained three-year-old is 2-2 so far, winning novice events at both Yarmouth (7f, good to soft) last October and last month, on his reappearance at Salisbury (7f, good to firm).
That latest success was another good education for him, as Frankie Dettori had to get serious with him after he hung both ways when the race began in earnest.
That he responded in the way he did, picking up effortlessly to win with a fair bit up his sleeve, suggests he could be well treated for this handicap debut, for which his official mark has been allotted at 88.
He sticks to 7f (he'll stay further), which suggests that connections are perfectly happy he can still win races over this short before he goes up in trip and I think we'll take the hint.
So, it's Samburu to win York's 16:10 on Wednesday.
