Sandown nap May 19: Brayden to Star in Surrey

Sandown stages some good Flat racing on Thursday evening and Jonathan Doidge heads there for his nap of the day for May 19.

The 1m2f Coral Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap (18:45) on Thursday has a typical Sandown look to it, with a number of top trainers represented among the seven-runner field.
This 0-95 contest is not one to be taken lightly and without due consideration to all seven of them but, having done so, it is still hard to see past the last-time winner Brayden Star, who is the mount of Ryan Moore.
There's always the risk of a 'flash in the pan' or 'fluke' when a horse steps up so far beyond what he has previously achieved, as was the case when this son of Twilight Son trounced his field at Salisbury last time (1m2f, good) by over seven lengths.
There, he performed more than a stone and a half better than any of his previous four runs but it looked to be the step up in trip, as much as anything, that enabled him to do that.
The Harry and Roger Charlton-trained three-year-old stays over the same distance here and even with a 6lb penalty he looks well treated, as he is due to go up 8lb this weekend.
The advice is to get on now and side with Brayden Star to add to his Salisbury success with another in the 18:45 at Sandown on Thursday.
