Luke Elder’s betting tips: Can Skelton get Supremely Lucky at Newbury?

Our man in the know takes a look at the 2.05 at Newbury on Friday.

Looking to have a bet on Friday afternoon? Well, you're in the right place, as Luke Elder delves into the 2.05 at Newbury to try and find us a winner.

2.05 Newbury - Storm Goddess

Elder says: "The 2.05 at Newbury is an open looking staying handicap hurdle, where Supremely Lucky looks sure to be one of the main contenders, on form and also taking into account that Harry Skelton is on board - anything that he's on at the moment has to be respected with him going for the champion jockey's title against Brian Hughes.

"I think he should be there fighting out the finish after that second to Corrany over fences last time around, also very much a respected hurdler, was a winner at Warwick a couple of starts ago.

"[He] is off a mark of 136 now over hurdles, so that might be a little bit tougher for Supremely Lucky in a race like this, and we're going to side with a horse that we mentioned at the Cheltenham Festival last week, Storm Goddess, who unseated in the Pertemps around the halfway marker.

"[Storm Goddess] was backed that day from about 40/1 into 14s at a point, and I think Storm Goddess could go pretty close. She has proven that she stays this trip, when finishing fourth - a close-up fourth - at Kempton a few starts ago.

"[She] did manage to win at that track over a slightly shorter distance as well so I think Storm Goddess on this ground can go pretty close, Supremely Lucky the one to make her work hardest."
