Leicester nap May 24: Tathbeet to win on debut for William Haggas

The stiff track at Leicester is a good test for a young horse and Planet Sport’s Jonathan Doidge is confident he’s found one who can win there for his Tuesday selection.

The top trainer often send their promising types for a bit of education at the likes of Nottingham and Leicester and it's the latter that stages a decent maiden over a mile on Tuesday (15:20), with several big name handlers sending theirs for the contest.

That should mean that the market is a reasonably solid one and the likely favourite for it looks to be Knight Of Honour, who represents the Gosdens and has been placed third and then second in two promising starts.

Simon and Ed Crisford saddle Positive Impact, who made a promising start at Thirsk a couple of weeks ago and is another potential improver.

However, I'm siding with a newcomer to beat them both and it goes by the name of Tathbeet.

This Lope De Vega colt cost 48,000gns as a yearling but by two he went through the ring for £210,000. That sort of mark up is not to be sniffed at and he represents a trainer in red hot form, William Haggas.

Haggas is well used to turning out debut winners and this colt is out of a Listed-placed filly who was officially rated 99 at her best. Tathbeet is bred to do well at this debut trip of a mile and at up to 1m2f. He will sport a tongue-tie on debut and he is likely to be ready to do himself justice, so I'm siding with him to win on debut.
So to recap, it's Tathbeet to win the 15:20 at Leicester on Tuesday.
