Kelso nap March 26: Somme can outbattle competitive field

It’s good to see the enterprise continues at Kelso racecourse and that’s where Planet Sport tipster Jonathan Doidge is heading for his Saturday, March 26 selection.

The track has again been rewarded for putting on good prize money by drawing some very competitive fields, including in the race I'm taking aim in.

Brian Ellison has his runners in cracking form. He won the Morebattle Hurdle with Cormier recently and he returns to plunder another big Kelso prize with Son Of The Somme in the Schloss Roxburghe Go North Cab On Target Handicap Hurdle (Series Final) (13:35) on Saturday, March 26.

The son of Yeats has improved with each run this season, going very close at twice at Doncaster and once at Sedgefield, as well as winning comfortably at Wetherby (2m3f, good to soft) in January amid all that.

Brian Hughes was on board at Doncaster last time, when Jet Of Magic proved a neck too good for them, with the front pair 15-lengths clear of the rest. The seven-year-old goes up 3lb for that but his profile still gives him a great chance of coming home in front of his 14 opponents.

He acts on a sound surface and won't mind any rain either, so there are plenty of bases covered and it's Son Of The Somme and Brian Hughes to win the 13:35 at Kelso, on Saturday.
