Friday racing tips from Newcastle, Southwell and Dundalk

Planet Sport tipsters comb through three meetings on Friday, January 20 looking for winners as racing across England and Ireland continues to battle against the cold weather.

There will be no turf racing in Britain on Friday - a fourth successive blank day - as Market Rasen called off their card following a noon inspection on Thursday.

But we have the all-weather to keep us entertained so let's start with some detail on our top tips for Friday's action, you can find a full list of selections for every race across all the tracks at the bottom of the page.

Don't forget to check out the racecards, results and live odds in the Planet Sport racing live centre.

13:20 (Southwell) Easy Equation

Easy Equation's only win to date came at Southwell, so he is worth following back at the Nottinghamshire circuit in the BetUK Over 40,000 Live Streamed Races Handicap.
Stan Moore's charge turned in a fair effort at Kempton to be fourth, and this kind of race looks well within his remit.

14:50 (Southwell) Golden Speech

Golden Speech let favourite-backers down at Kempton earlier in the month but could reward those who keep the faith in the talkSPORT Powered By Fans Novice Stakes.
The Dubawi gelding has bumped into some good horses so far - beaten by useful fellow Charlie Appleby inmates Victory Dance and One Nation on his first two starts before being three lengths adrift of the classy Nostrum.
A stablemate proved his undoing again last time, when First Sight was just too good, but given it was his first run since July, Golden Speech can take another step forward.

15:20 (Southwell) Run Teddy Run

Run Teddy Run makes a swift reappearance under a 5lb penalty in the Spreadex Sports Get £40 In Bonuses Handicap at Southwell.
He found a good bit of improvement on what was his fifth handicap spin on Sunday, prevailing by just under four lengths at the Nottinghamshire venue.
Karl Burke turns him out again under a penalty and that could prove a smart choice.

17:15 (Newcastle) Brownlee

Brownlee could make it a double for the Barron yard in the talkSPORT Powered By Fans Handicap.
The three-year-old made it fifth time lucky at Southwell before Christmas and looked good value for the official margin of a length and a quarter.
Upped in the ratings, he still makes plenty of appeal.

17:45 (Newcastle) Modular Magic

Modular Magic has not got his head in front since July 2021, but his time can come in the Huge Daily Boosts Only At BetUK Handicap at Newcastle.
David and Nicola Barron's charge reached a peak rating of 82 in the, but he has dropped down the pecking order a bit in the interim after a handful of lacklustre turf efforts and a disappointing all-weather run in October.
However, Modular Magic has shaped with much more promise in two starts so far in 2023, finishing a narrow fourth over five furlongs at Southwell before being touched off by a short head over the same five furlongs he faces here last week.
Modular Magic is usually ridden quite prominently but he was restrained that day and suffered a bit of bad luck as the gaps did not quite open up in time for him.
Those tactics seemed to suit though and he can line up off the same mark of 72, with a 3lb rise on the horizon, which makes him an attractive proposition.
