Daily Nap April 13: Dig his chance at Newmarket

Attentions are beginning to focus on the new Flat season and Planet Sport’s Jonathan Doidge calls in at Newmarket’s Craven Meeting for a selection on Wednesday, April 13.

The bet365 handicap (13:50) is always a competitive start to the spring. This class 2 handicap has this year drawn a field of 13, including several last-time winners.
The selection is not one of those. Dig Two returns to action for the first time in 251 days. He represents Hugh Palmer and is the mount of the excellent James Doyle.
The three-year-old has been both gelded and had wind surgery since his last run, when a close second in a Yarmouth novice event last August.
He's been dropped 2lb by the handicapper for this race, which is actually his handicap debut. A runner-up in last year's Windsor Castle Stakes, a Listed contest at Royal Ascot, he has a touch of class about him.
I think he's a bit of value against the top two in the market and you can back him each-way if you prefer a bit of insurance.
So, it's Dig Two in the 13:50 at Newmarket on Wednesday.
