A Plus Tard to be kept fresh for Cheltenham Gold Cup

Last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup second A Plus Tard will head straight to Prestbury Park without another run this season, according to his owners, Cheveley Park Stud.

The eight-year-old, who destroyed a Grade 1 field in November's Betfair Chase at Haydock Park, had finished second to stable companion Minella Indo in the Gold Cup last season.
Runner-up to Galvin in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting, he remains towards the head of the bookmakers' Gold Cup markets, and after such a good run in the blue riband event last season, connections see no reason the mix things up this term.
"A Plus Tard has been a fantastic horse for us - he won the Savills in 2020, he was second in the Gold Cup, he beat Chacun Pour Soi over two miles at Leopardstown two years ago and he won the Betfair Chase," said Richard Thompson of owners Cheveley Park Stud on Sky Sports Racing.
"He'll just go straight to Cheltenham now, that's the plan, that worked well (last year) so he won't run again before Cheltenham.
"We will go there with a great chance I think and as long as the race pans out for us well, he'll have a terrific chance hopefully.
"He's definitely my personal favourite, I just love the way he's so consistent."
