Porsche European Open tips: Victor Perez has game to excel at Green Eagle

After landing us with the 55/1 winner and a 12/1 place in last week’s KLM Dutch Open, Tipstrr golf pundit Martin Colwell is looking for more of the same in this week’s European Open.

Last week our each-way selections at the KLM Open found a 55/1 winner and a 12/1 place, thanks to the victorious Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal and the in-form Adrian Meronk.

This week the DP World Tour heads to the Green Eagle Golf Courses near Hamburg in Germany, for the fortieth anniversary of European Open, with Kalle Samooja defending last year's title.

The 7,457-yard par-73 course has generous fairways with water on all holes except one, while the greens are large and undulating and are generally regarded as a good surface to putt on.

Rasmus Hojgaard came third behind Larrazabal and Adrian Otaegui at the KLM Open last week, and that has earned him the favourite tag in Germany.

We have no real course form to talk of from Rasmus, and at a slightly more generous price of 16/1 in places, Victory Perez holds more appeal. The Frenchman finished third here in 2022 and the course sets up well for his style of play.

Suggested bet: Victor Perez each-way at the European Open

Jordan Smith is another previous winner here (in 2017) and is a long hitter, which is an asset on this course, while at a similar price Alexander Bjork has been playing well lately but fell away last week and may be being overrated in a wide-open betting market at around 22/1.
Others to consider - Thorbjorn Olesen has found some decent form in recent times and certainly has the game to play this course. He has no stand-out course form to speak of, but the 25/1 available may be solid each-way value if he brings his game.
Suggested bet: Thorbjorn Olesen each-way at the European Open
German golfers have had four wins on the DP World Tour this season and they would be keen to win their home country open.
Marcel Schneider catches the eye at 50/1 after placing here in 2022 and his form is solid enough for 50/1 to be considered a potential each-way pick.
Similarly Eduardo Molinari has placed here the past two years, and although not doing that much generally on tour at present, this is his best course results-wise, so again 50/1 could look big by the time Sunday afternoon comes around if the Italian is up for it back at Green Eagle.
Suggested bet: Eduardo Molinari each-way at the European Open
Glancing further still down the betting board, Wil Besseling was runner-up here in 2022, and although not in good form recently, the Dutchman has shown that he can play this course well, suggesting that a 150/1 price tag may prove to be valuable if finding his game this week.
John Axelsen missed a place last week by one stroke. A promising newcomer to the tour, as a graduate from the Challenge tour. The 250/1 available looks very big for a golfer who performed well last week.
Summary of suggested bets: Victor Perez, Thorbjorn Olesen, Eduardo Molinari and for small stakes, John Axelsen (all each-way) .
