Max Homa and Brian Harman have plenty of big-odds appeal at the Texas Open
The USPGA stays in Texas this week at TPC San Antonio as we build up to The Masters next week, and golf tipster Martin Colwell is on the look out for some value.
Rory McIlroy is our 10/1 best odds favourite, but this is surely preparation for him for next weeks Masters. As Rory has not won The Masters yet to complete the majors grand slam, the pressure will be on next week. So, that being the case I can leave him this week.
The young Swedish sensation Ludvig Aberg is next in the betting at 12/1. He has played this course before when he was at college in Texas. His odds seem to be a bit short value wise against this field and so I cannot be with him here.
We then jump to 20/1 in the odds, where we find Hideki Matsuyama and the out of form Jordan Spieth. I think that I prefer Hideki of the two, but am worried about him remaining in contention after the first two days of action. Wait to see how he goes and then consider a bet on him in running.
Max Homa is appealing at 25/1. Ranked tenth in the world at present. A six times winner on tour, including successes on Bermuda grass. Just the one top ten finish from seven starts in 2024. But in this weaker field and with his current world ranking, Max looks good value at these odds.
Also, on 25/1 we have Matt Fitzpatrick and Collin Morikawa. ‘Fitzy’ is in the better form. Morikawa is way off his best at present and is easily passed over.
I can see Brian Harman being able to plot his way around this course. The world number twelve has been a runner up and has had two top tens from eight starts in the current year. Again, as with Max Homa, he may shine in this weaker field in Texas. I like the 30/1 available.
Billy Horschel is also 30/1. Getting back to near his best these days. Recent form has been good without looking like winning. I can see him getting along ok on this course.
At bigger odds, Patrick Rodgers could play a part this week at 100/1 and get his first tour win.
Suggested bets:
Max Homa, 2.5 points each way at 25/1
Brian Harman, 2 points each way at 30/1
