THE CJ CUP betting tips: Back Rory McIlroy to gain second PGA Tour win of the calendar year

The PGA Tour remains in Las Vegas this week and Planet Sport tipster Jack Kelliher has four selections for the action at The Summit Club.

THE CJ CUP was originally played in South Korea at the Nine Bridges Golf Club on Jeju Island. It temporarily relocated to Las Vegas last year, but plans to return to Asia were cancelled once again this season. The tournament moves across the city from Shadow Creek to The Summit Club.

The big question is - who will claim glory this weekend? In-form tipster Jack Kelliher believes that Rory McIlroy, priced at 18/1 with Planet Sport Bet, will secure his second win of the 2021/22 PGA Tour campaign.

Jack has three other selections for the tournament, which you can watch in the video below.

Rory McIlroy to claim victory

After his win at the Wells Fargo Championship in May this year, McIlroy hasn't been able to claim top spot since and, after the embarrassment at the 2021 Ryder Cup, Jack argues that the Northern Irishmen will be keen to redeem himself.

He says: "He is a player who statistically got an incredible chance this week.

"On Tom Fazio designed tracks he is first in terms of strokes gained off the tee, first in terms of driving distance, first for par-5 scoring, and these are going to be key factors in determining the winner this week.

"The headline selection at 18/1, with six places available, is Rory McIlory."

Justin Thomas to shine

Kelliher's second headline selection is the two-time tournament winner, both in Korea, Justin Thomas.

Like McIlroy he claimed a win early this year, at THE PLAYERS Championship in March, but the American, priced 12/1 with Planet Sport Bet, is yet to add to his calendar year tally.

"He has got three victories after breaks of two weeks or more in his career," argues Kelliher.

"Statistically he fits this set up really well. At Fazio designed tracks he is fourth in terms of strokes gained off the tee, not the strongest part of his game, and then with the Irons and the approach play he sits in the top five in all categories."

Louis Oosthuizen good each-way shout

The third selection is the South African Louis Oosthuizen,  who continues his hunt for a first win in America.

"He has made ten top 20s in his last ten events, five of those top ten," says Kelliher. "He is gaining strokes tee to green and approach play in each of those ten events.

"He is in great form and his putter warmed up in 2021. If that warms up again this week I can see Louis Oosthuizen going extremely close at odds of 28/1."

Aaron Wise big priced outsider

Kelliher's fourth and final selection is the talented Aaron Wise who is priced at 60/1 with Planet Sport Bet.

"He has made 11 cuts in a row; he sits in the top ten in terms of driving distance and strokes gained off the tee at Fazio designed tracks. But he is a player that is in the most consistent form of his career since bursting onto the scene in 2019.

"Real consistent performances, making 11 cuts from 11, great performance last week, the fourth and final selection of the week will be Aaron Wise, available at 60/1."
