Brian Harman at the Open - Jul 2023

Zach Johnson reckons Open champion Brian Harman will only motivated by any heckling attempts from European audiences at the Ryder Cup, just as he was when he won the Claret Jug earlier this year.

The 36-year-old Harman won the Open at Royal Liverpool with a flawless performance in July but was subjected to what he called "unrepeatable" heckling over the final two days.

At the time he said it helped him focus on the task in hand – although he did have to ask for one fan to be ejected – and Johnson said the left-hander would thrive if similar were to happen at Marco Simone in Rome when the event starts on Friday.

"It's pretty documented that there were some things kind of jeered and whatnot and that's to be expected, given where it was and who he is and who he's not, right," he said.

"Knowing Brian, that's probably more fuel to the fire. He has that ability and that talent, that mentality, to kind of make that be a positive.

"I think he's truly made for these events. I think anybody's win in a stage of that magnitude (the Open) can be extremely beneficial.

"What does Brian do well? What does he do poorly is an easier question because it's an easy answer. I don't know if he does anything poorly.

"He just does everything really consistently well."
