The WGC – Dell Match Play: The final round of group matches: what happens next?

It’s always a confusing day, as the group stages come to a conclusion.

The last round of group matches at the World Golf Championship - Dell Match Play is a race towards the weekend knockout stages.
But is less a finishing straight than a mathematical three-legged egg-and-spoon race.
As it stands, no-one is guaranteed progress to the last 16, even though 12 players have a 100% record through the first two days of action.
There will be one winner-takes-all match (Corey Conners v Alex Noren). Elsewhere, Carol Vorderman and Rachel Riley are on speed dial.
It's going to be a frantic day. Here are the various scenarios:

Group 1

Top seed Jon Rahm has won both his matches and will progress with a half in his final match against Patrick Reed. If he loses and Cameron Young beats Sebastian Munoz the two will playoff.

Group 2

Robert MacIntyre is out after two defeats but there's all to play for the other three. Collin Morikawa and Sergio Garcia have the edge with a win and a half apiece. The former plays Jason Kokrak, the latter MacIntyre. Morikawa advances with a win and Garcia loss/half. Garcia advances with a win and Morikawa loss/half. They playoff if both win or both half. Kokrak advances with a win and Garcia loss.

Group 3

Viktor Hovland was won twice and will progress with a half. If he loses to Will Zalatoris they will playoff and if Sepp Straka also wins (against the eliminated Cameron Tringale) he'll join them.

Group 4

Seamus Power has two wins and will advance with a half against Keith Mitchell. If Im defeats Patrick Cantlay, he and Power playoff.

Group 5

Ian Poulter is out. Matt Fitzpatrick has the advantage: a win or half against Scottie Scheffler gets him through. If Scheffler wins, they playoff. If Fleetwood beats Poulter he joins them.

Group 6

With two wins Kevin Kisner leads and advances with a win or half against Justin Thomas. If Thomas wins, they playoff. If Luke List beats eliminated Marc Leishman, he joins them.

Group 7

With two wins Lucas Herbert leads and advances with a win or half against Takumi Kanaya. If Kanaya wins, they playoff. If Xander Schauffele beats eliminated Tony Finau, he joins them.

Group 8

With two wins Dustin Johnson leads and advances with a win or half against Max Homa. If Homa wins, they playoff. If Mackenzie Hughes beats eliminated Matthew Wolff, he joins them.

Group 9

Bryson DeChambeau is out after defeat to Lee Westwood. Everything else can happen. Richard Bland plays Westwood and whoever wins, if Talor Gooch halves or loses to Chambeau, they progress. If Gooch wins he forces a playoff is Westwood wins or Bland halves.

Group 10

Louis Oosthuizen and Paul Casey are out. So a ttraight fight between the 100% records of Corey Conners and Alex Noren. If tied, they playoff.

Group 11

Keegan Bradley is out. Adam Scott needs: victory over Jordan Spieth or a tie and Bradley to tie/beat Justin Rose. Scott and Rose playoff if Scott ties and Rose wins. Spieth advances with a win and a Rose loss or tie. Spieth and Rose playoff is both win.

Group 12

With two wins Billy Horschel leads and advances with a win or half against Thomas Pieters. If Pieters wins, they playoff if Min Woo Lee ties or loses to eliminated Tom Hoge. If Pieters and Lee win, they and Horschel playoff.

Group 13

With two wins Tyrrell Hatton leads and advances with a win or half against Daniel Berger. If Berger wins, they playoff if Si Woo Kim ties or loses to eliminated Christiaan Bezuidenhout. If Berger and Kim win, they and Hatton playoff.

Group 14

Chaos! Kevin Na advances with a win against Joaquin Niemman if Maverick McNealy loses or halves versus Russell Henley. He also advances with a half and a McNealy loss. Na and McNealy playoff if both win or both half. McNealy advances with a win and Na loss/half. McNealy and Niemann playoff with a McNealy half and Niemann win. Niemann advances with a win and McNealy loss. Easy bit? Henley is eliminated.

Group 15

Abraham Ancer advances with a win over Webb Sipson. He also advances with a half and a Bubba Watson half/loss versus the eliminated Brian Harman. There will be an Ancer-Watson playoff if Ancer halves and Watson wins. Simpson advances with a win and Watson half/loss. Simpson-Watson force a playoff if both win.

Group 16

With two wins Brooks Koepka leads and advances with a win or half against Shane Lowry. If Lowry wins, they playoff and Harold Varner III loses of halves with the eliminated Erik Van Rooyen. If Varner II wins, he joins them.
