Thomas Detry hunting maiden DP World Tour title in front of home crowd

Thomas Detry is the local hopeful as the DP World Tour rolls into Belgium for the Soudal Open this week.
Another tournament, another ray of hope for Thomas Detry.
Detry won the World Cup of Golf with Thomas Pieters in 2018 but has yet to taste victory in an individual event, coming closest when he lost out in a three-man play-off for the Scottish Open two years ago.
The 30-year-old has been competing on the PGA Tour in 2023 after earning his card via the second-tier Korn Ferry Tour, but hopes a much-needed break can lead to success at Rinkven International Golf Club in Antwerp.
"I had a big step this year where I qualified for the PGA Tour and decided to give it a good try and it's been pretty good," the world number 90 said.
"It hasn't been easy, there's been a lot of golf. I was kind of forced to play a lot of golf in America to keep up my ranking, but I was lucky to take the last two weeks off and I think I'm going to come back fresher.
"It's felt strange coming back, but it's so good to see some familiar faces and being back in Belgium as well it's even better. It's going to be a busy week and a lot of friends and family are going to come and watch me so very much looking forward to it.
"The level in Europe is really, really high so I have to play well. I don't take this week any lighter than a week in America.
"There's no Rory [McIlroy] this week, there's no Scottie Scheffler this week, but all the guys out here are really competitive and playing some good golf so you've just got to get after it.
"It would mean everything (to win). I've been very near a couple of times and I just try to not think about it too much. I'm doing my own thing, I've got other longer term focus and goals.
"Really winning is a bonus and I am sure it will happen some day. But obviously if it could happen this week that would be just a dream come true really."
