The Masters 2022: Who is the best putter, driver and iron player after 36 holes?

A look at the Strokes Gained stats after two rounds at Augusta National and what they could tell us going into the weekend.

Scottie Scheffler leads The Masters by a hefty five shots at halfway so what is he doing better than anyone else?

One answer is making the fewest mistakes.

Scheffler had just one bogey on his card in the first round while there were just two blemishes on Friday.

His bogey count of three is the joint-fewest in the field alongside Dustin Johnson and this category has always been a great predictor of Masters success.

But let's break down his game too.
Strokes Gained stats are available at The Masters these days and basically Scheffler is showing up strongly in all the categories.

Scheffler's Strokes Gained stats

Off The Tee: 4th
Approach: 12th
Around The Green: 5th
Tee To Green: 1st
Putting: 5th

Strokes Gained Around The Green was a particularly strong pointer last year when five of the top six finishers ranked in the top nine for that category.

Scheffler's 5th place ranking bodes well.

Out of interest, this is how Tiger Woods is performing so far.

Tiger's Strokes Gained stats

Off The Tee: 46th
Approach: 9th
Around The Green: 38th
Tee To Green: 28th
Putting: 17th

What the leaders need to do better

-8 Scottie Scheffler - Nothing!
-3 Charl Schwartzel - The South African is 26th or better in every category
-3 Sungjae Im - In round two he was only 60th Off The Tee and 54th Tee To Green
-3 Shane Lowry - He's 41st in Approach so needs to sharpen that up
-3 Hideki Matsuyama - His Approach (40th) and Putting (35th) numbers are somewhat modest
-2 Dustin Johnson - His driving isn't at its normal levels (41st Off The Tee)
-2 Cameron Smith - Surprisingly, he's not putted well (42nd SGP). Also only 49th OTT

-2 Harold Varner - He's in the top 21 for every category
