Ryder Cup 2023: USA captain Zach Johnson names Jim Furyk as vice-captain

United States Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson has named Jim Furyk as one of his vice-captains for this year’s event in Rome, saying: "He’s an amazing leader, mentor and someone I trust."

United States Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson has named Jim Furyk as one of his vice-captains for this year's event in Rome.

Former captain Furyk joins Steve Stricker and Davis Love III, who have already been confirmed as vice-captains, with further appointments due to be made in due course.
Johnson said: "Jim and I have been friends for more than 20 years.
"He's an amazing leader, mentor and someone I trust. He understands what it takes to compete at the highest level, and how to be a team player. I will be leaning on his experience a ton in the lead up to Marco Simone in September."
The 52-year-old Furyk played in nine consecutive Ryder Cups and has previously served as vice-captain during victories in 2016 at Hazeltine and in 2020 at Whistling Straits.
The 2003 US Open champion was also the United States captain at Le Golf National in 2018, where Europe claimed victory.
