PGA Tour news: Collin Morikawa surges ahead at Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii

Collin Morikawa earned himself a six-stroke lead after the third round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions, while Matt Fitzpatrick moved into second place.

The American finished the day on eight-under 65 for a total of 24-under 195, keeping ahead of the pack.

The former Open championship winner enjoyed a fast finish thanks to a red-hot putter, rolling in birdies on the 14th, 15th and 16th before draining a 15-footer on the last. That putter has earned him the No/1 spot in Strokes Gained: Putting at Sentry this week.

On Sunday, he will fight for his sixth PGA Tour title.

"Yeah, it's been pretty simple today," said Morikawa, as per pgatour.com.
"Kind of over the past three days, is where I've been looking is kind of where the ball's been going. I kind of know what is doing right and when I hit a bad shot, kind of what the mistake was. That's the biggest thing."
Fitzpatrick shot his way up from sixth place to share the second spot, on a total of 18-under 201, with Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and American JJ Spaun.
Morikawa finished last year winless but is showing his determination to end the losing streak early in 2023 by earning a six shot lead before the final day of the tournament.
He birdied four of the last five holes on Saturday, ending on a 15-foot birdie putt.
