Max Homa rallies to win Farmers Insurance Open while Jon Rahm capitulates

Max Homa came from five shots back to win the Farmers Insurance Open following a thrilling final round on Sunday.

The American carded a sizzling six-under 66 in the final round around the iconic Torrey Pines, enough to take him 13 under for the tournament, two strokes ahead of Keegan Bradley who finished alone in second two shots back.
After making the turn at an impressive four under, Homa drained a 16-footer for a birdie on the par three 16th to move into the lead. For good measure, he sealed the deal with a four-foot birdie putt on the last, cuing celebrations as he chalked up his sixth PGA Tour win.
"I hope that I haven't seen my best day yet, my favorite day yet," the 32-year-old told pgatour.com afterwards.

"I'm sure there will be many other great, great days. Today feels like the best day ever. I hope that tomorrow feels better. You're just hopeful. I think all of us kind of have that. You just hope for the best and stay the course."

Former Open champion Collin Morikawa finished solo third after closing with a solid 69.

Meanwhile, for perennial contender Jon Rahm, it was a day to forget. Hoping to earn his third win in as many starts and move to world number one, the Spaniard started the day two shots behind leader Sam Ryder. But he quickly fell out of contention, making the turn at three over before carding a 74 to finish in T7.
Rahm's miserable finish was in contrast to Homa's, who had his wife Lacy and two-month-old son Cam Andrew greenside on the 18th to celebrate with him.
"He is the hardest worker," quipped Lacey.

"I think if you continue to just work as hard as he is, you just kind of forget about that stuff (the struggles). He did have some scar tissue for a while, but he has replaced those memories with so many good ones."
