Justin Lower leads Danny Willett by one at Fortinet Championship

Justin Lower will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the season-opening Fortinet Championship on Sunday.

The American signed for a 3-under 69 at Silverado Resort & Spa in California, moving him to 13 under for the tournament, one ahead of former Masters Champion Danny Willett and Max Homa.

Lower would make his fifth birdie of the round on the final hole to give him his first 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour. Conditions were difficult on Saturday afternoon around Silverado, as the wind picked up to a gale.

Willett - the second round leader - endured a difficult day as he carded a bogey and a double-bogey to finish even par. The Englishman is joined by Homa, the defending champion, on 12 under par.

With an ominous forecast for Sunday, officials have compacted the field into threesomes playing off split tees in an attempt to get the tournament done early.
