Jon Rahm previews challenging Oak Hill course ahead of US PGA Championship

World number one Jon Rahm is under no illusion as to the challenge that awaits at the US PGA Championship this week.
The major returns to the notoriously challenging East Course at the Oak Hill Country Club for 2023. Aside from Allen Creek acting as a natural hazard on nine holes, narrow fairways and tall rough, the par 70 course will be lengthy.
Depending on pin placement the par 3 11th could be as far as 245 yards out, while there are a couple of par fours over 500 yards long.
As such, Rahm is not expecting an easy ride in New York this week.
"Whoever is setting up the golf course is going to have a lot of fun," the Masters champion told
ESPN.
"You can make this golf course as difficult as you want or not as accessible as you want, but obviously you can make a big difference in the scoring."
"If you don't hit it through that gap, some of the holes that are quite narrow, those bunkers are no joke.
"Everybody will miss fairways, everybody will miss greens, so if you can get those up-and-downs, obviously it's not only a confidence booster, but it's something that will keep the round going."
The media scrum at Oak Hill attempted to draw Rahm into a LIV Golf debate, but he was having none of it.
"Obviously there's some things in life, some values that I believe in that I might judge if you compromise, but that is your choice to do with your career," said the Spaniard of his LIV Golf rivals.
"It's your life, it's your family. You do whatever you want. From that point of view, I'm nobody to tell them what to do. That's why I would never get emotionally invested in something like that. It's their life."
