Not only did the Liverpool native get to hit the first tee shot on Thursday morning, but rounds of 69, 72, 69 and 70 saw him clinch a top-10 finish.
Royal Liverpool member Matthew Jordan admitted holing a birdie at the last made for a dream ending to a fairytale week at the Open.
The Hoylake resident has been one of the standout stories of the 151st Open, having come through qualifying to play in a major on his local links.
The 27-year-old was not fazed by the honour of hitting the tournament's first tee shot and went on to finish in a tie for 10th on four under par after rounds of 69, 72, 69 and 70.
He wrapped up in style at the par-five 18th, much to the delight of the large and vocal support that has followed him throughout the week.
"It was just the perfect finish to what has been the most unbelievable week," Jordan said.
"Just rolling that in - I just so wanted to knock it in for everyone who's supported me, just to go 'mental' one last time and crazy.
"They stuck with me even in the rain like this. Just to be able to do it for them and have that kind of ultimate feeling, as it were, to birdie the last at my home course at the Open is just brilliant."
Jordan's strong finish means he will receive automatic entry into next year's Open at Royal Troon.
He said: "I've heard Troon is brilliant. That didn't really cross my mind, I didn't know about it but it is just another thing. Holing that putt on the last is just a massive bonus."
