DP World Tour: Sebastian Soderberg leads at Scandinavian Mixed event

Swedish golfer Sebastian Soderberg delighted home fans with a opening 63 in the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed event.

Soderberg carded an eagle and seven birdies at Vasatorps Golfklubb to open up a two-shot lead over South Africa's Dylan Frittelli and England's Alex Fitzpatrick, who were also bogey-free on seven under in an event which sees 78 men and 78 women compete for one prize fund and one trophy.

"There's a lot of family and friends here and it's easy to put extra pressure on yourself wanting to play good in front of them," said Soderberg, whose sole DP World Tour victory to date came in a five-man play-off, which included Rory McIlroy, at the 2019 European Masters.

"I did feel a little extra adrenaline on the first tee which doesn't happen that often on a Thursday but I got off to a good start and it was nice to have everyone out there the whole day."

Former champion Linn Grant and Ireland's Lauren Walsh were the best-placed Ladies European Tour players on five under par, with Grant determined to make the most of playing in her home town of Helsingborg.

"I'm going to work out in my own gym, which is so nice, and hang out with some friends, have a barbecue and enjoy some time off before tomorrow," said Grant, who stormed to a nine-shot victory in 2022.

"I told Jonathan (her brother and caddie) the best thing is that we can go home. It's just the best."
