Best players to watch at the 2022 Masters

Our three experts select players who can impress at the first Major Championship of the year.

There are many leading contenders at this week's Masters, as discussed by our three experts in the first video of the week.

But further down the pecking order are players who have the capacity to enjoy the Augusta National test and nab a top finish.

Pete Farries suggests that "Corey Conners is one to keep an eye on" and that "Justin Rose absolutely loves Augusta".

But Pete's main outsider pick for the week is JJ Spaun, who he says: "Took so much confidence from last week's win in the Texas Open. His game is not good enough to win but he could feature."

For sports feature writer Dave Tindall the Scot Robert MacIntyre is the man to keep an eye on. "He made his debut last year and finished tied 12th," said Dave. "He's also played well in the Open, finishing sixth and eighth. So here's a guy who really comes to life when the big guns get together.

"He's said he loves the course, he loves shaping shots and left-handers love Augusta. He maybe can't win the green jacket but he can make the top 10."

Golf writer Matt Cooper is thinking along similar lines to Pete. "My pick is Canada's Corey Conners," Matt said. "He hits a lot of greens in regulation which in itself is a great fit for Augusta.
"But what I really like about him is how well he plays in elite company. He's finished top 10 in the last two Masters, he led after 18 holes at the 2021 PGA Championship and was in contention after 54 holes at the Open. He was also third at the recent WGC - Dell Match Play."
