England's Andrew Johnston shot a stunning second-round 63 to put himself firmly in contention at the D+D REAL Czech Masters in Prague.

Johnston holed 10 birdies and had just one bogey on his card as he rocketed up the leaderboard on 12 under par.

The 35-year-old is tied for second spot with Scotland's Richie Ramsay, who carded a second-round 67, and Sweden's Jesper Svensson.

But Frenchman David Ravetto leads the way on 13 under after seven birdies — plus an eagle at the par-five 16th — meant he matched Johnston's course-record 63.

Johnston's fellow English challenger Brandon Robinson Thompson lies two shots off the lead after following up his first-round 65 with a 68.

But overnight leader Pieter Moolman is now five shots off the pace after a level-par 72 proved well short of his first-round heroics.

"It is such a strange game, isn't it. Everything has gone in today," Johnston told the DP World Tour website.

"It's always good to shoot that score around any golf course. I was really steady today, but the difference was the putts dropped."

Ramsay, meanwhile, added: "I am delighted with the way I played.

"This is a good indication of what I am capable of. I still love doing what I do and it is great to be at the top of the board."
