Day two at the 149th Open: What they said after the second round

"Playing those last nine holes was probably as good a conditions you can ask for playing links golf. It was absolute perfect weather, little bit of a breeze but not really anything difficult I would say and I took advantage of that and played really well.

(After second places in the last two Majors) "I just need to pull it through and see if I can go one better on this weekend. The game is good, but I know it's a really good leaderboard. I have to play good golf this weekend if I want to come out first."

"Just sticking to what I've been doing. Yesterday I thought I played really well. Just wasn't hitting as many fairways. Was able to hit a few more fairways early on in the round today.

"When I'm in the fairway with a 9-iron or 8-iron I feel very comfortable. Not necessarily going straight at the pins but being aggressive with the lines I need to take and slopes you need to play. Yeah, sometimes you have those days where you're very fortunate to have good numbers, and today was one of those days."

"Those last six holes were kind of frustrating. I felt, I don't know, I think I need to bring more food on the golf course tomorrow. I got really just in a weird head space, like fatigued there on like the 13th green as we were waiting and hitting putts.

"I just didn't stay focused like I was early in the round. Wasn't very sharp. It's an easy solution for tomorrow. But the finish on 18 probably securing a second to last group on a Sunday is a good position to be in, but today was an afternoon where I was looking -- I was eyeing a number lower than what I finished at."

"I think the course it's definitely firming up. It was firmer this afternoon and it's definitely going to keep getting firmer if the weather stays like this. I mean, I like the position I'm in going into the weekend. Still going to have to play some really good golf if I want to contend on Sunday."

"I felt like I was really disciplined out there today. Didn't really try and chase too many flags down. Just put it into areas where par was an easy score to make and you might have a sneaky chance at birdie.

"I felt really in control of myself today, and it was obviously nice to hole that clutch par putt at the end there on the last hole to really make things sweeter."

"Great round. Very similar to yesterday tee-to-green. Obviously yesterday we had a little bit more wind. I made some putts early on, and I think that was the key, right.

"If I can put another solid round like I did today, post a good number, and hope that the leaders don't go too low, I think that's the job. I have the confidence that I can go low on a weekend to win the tournament."

"it was nice to finish with three birdies. I think I forgot about it during the round, but very frustrated with 3 and 4. Can't make a double bogey in a major championship, so pretty frustrated. Annoyed. You can't make those mistakes, especially when you're that far back.

"I would like to be closer. But, yeah, I mean, I got to go out and play a good round. I need that. Try to be within two or three of the lead going into Sunday, so I need to make a move, and got to do it tomorrow."

"Really good day today. I mean, very, very happy with the score. My ball striking again off the tee was a little wayward, and so I feel like I got away with a couple.

"I struggled the first sort of half of the round, sort of the first sort of third of the round, and then got on a really nice run 7, 8, 9 with the birdies there. Managed to move up the leaderboard and then just tried to keep piling it on, which I maybe wasn't able to do, but very, very happy where I stand right now."

" I'm pretty happy. Obviously I was going out today on the cut mark. Knew the cut was probably going to be 1-over maybe -- to be honest, I thought it was going to go to 2-over but looks like it's going to be 1-over. So need to go shoot a decent number to put myself up the leaderboard.

"Obviously saw Collin got 9-under this morning, which you know is a difficult situation when you're going out to not try and force it or get too ahead of yourself. I played lovely golf today and put myself in the fairway, and when I did, I gave myself chances and managed to hole a few putts, so very happy on my day."

"If I was really on my game and sharp with how I've played the last two days, I probably could have been 6- or 7-under. But it's just not -- it's close, it's just not close enough."
