Premier League Darts tips: Luke Humphries targets historic quadruple in Belfast

Luke Humphries will be looking to pull off a historic achievement as week nine of the Premier League Darts season takes place at Belfast on Thursday night.

Fans at the SSE Arena will be treated to one or two classics if the quarter-final billing lives up to expectations.

The most eye-catching encounter on the card is a repeat of the world championship final between Luke Humphries and Luke Littler.

When the two men clashed at Alexandra Palace last January, it was Humphries who claimed the biggest prize in darts.

However, since that meeting, Littler has picked up three straight victories over the world champion – two of them in the Premier League.

The pair go head-to-head in Belfast and it wouldn’t be too egregious to say that whoever wins this quarter-final tie will likely win the entire night.

Humphries has won the last three Premier League events and a fourth straight success would be a truly unprecedented feat.

Cool Hand Luke has been in sensational form throughout March, losing just two of 17 matches across the entire month.

With that in mind, we’re backing the in-form man to make the impossible possible and win his fourth straight Premier League weekly title.

In terms of potential challengers, Michael van Gerwen is undoubtedly on that list. The Dutchman is not at his peak, though he has won five of his last six matches against his upcoming quarter-final opponent, Michael Smith.

Bully Boy reached the final last week in Dublin and the former world champion can’t be overlooked.

With that in mind, we’re backing Smith and Van Gerwen to have a big heavyweight tussle. Over 9.5 legs in that one is the way to go.

The other half of the draw on week nine appears relatively open. Nathan Aspinall has been good in spells and is likely to cause Gerwyn Price problems in their quarter-final match.

Rob Cross is another man to watch. Voltage is yet to win a night but he will fancy his chances in Thursday’s quarter-final against Peter Wright. The Scot has been woeful this season, winning just one match.

Bearing all that in mind, we’re backing Cross to win his night opener 6-3 in a battle of former world champions.
