Premier League Darts: Preview, schedule and suggested bets ahead of Night Eight

Scott Radford-Chisholm/PDC

Michael van Gerwen will be looking to reassert his dominance in the Premier League when he takes on long-time rival Peter Wright on Night Eight of the event.

The Dutchman won 10 straight games and claimed three straight Premier League mini-tournaments before enduring a shock 6-0 hammering at the hands of Chris Dobey in Nottingham last week.

Since then, the three-time world champion has hit back in style and won Sunday's Players Championship 7 in Hildesheim, Germany.

Van Gerwen reached the last-16 stage of Players Championship 8 a day later, but was ultimately knocked out by Gerwyn Price.

The 33-year-old is now setting his sights on Peter Wright as he looks to beat the Scotsman for the third week running.

Van Gerwen picked up 6-1 victories over Wright in Nottingham and Liverpool, with the Dutchman averaging 94 in both encounters.

The current league leader has dominated recent head-to-head meetings against Wright, winning eight of the last nine.

Van Gerwen is the man to back in the betting though with outright odds offering little value, our recommendation is to back a 6-1 win at a far more enticing price of 15/2.

Nathan Aspinall vs Dimitri Van den Bergh

Dimitri Van den Bergh's push for the top four continues this week against Nathan Aspinall.
The two men clashed last Thursday with Van den Bergh claiming a 6-4 win in a relatively low-quality affair.

The Belgian has won 10 straight matches against the Asp and is a slight favourite in the betting to extend that run.

Van den Bergh enjoyed quarter-final and last-16 runs in the two most recent Players Championship events.
Considering his head-to-head successes against Aspinall and his recent form, The DreamMaker is the man to back in the betting.

Gerwyn Price vs Jonny Clayton

Jonny Clayton heads into Thursday's all-Welsh encounter with Gerwyn Price as the clear underdog following a poor run of form.
The 48-year-old has won 10 of 18 games in March and is winless in his last two Premier League nights.
Price, meanwhile, arrives in Newcastle looking for back-to-back victories. The Welshman was in terrific form last Thursday as he powered past Clayton, Van den Bergh and Chris Dobey to win the night.

The former world champion also reached the semi-final of Players Championship 8 before bowing out to eventual winner, Gary Anderson.

Price has won his last five encounters against his fellow countryman and he is the man to back this Thursday night.

Michael Smith vs Chris Dobey

Chris Dobey produced the shock of the season last week after thrashing Michael van Gerwen 6-0 in the semi-final.
The 32-year-old was unable to go all the way in Nottingham after falling to a 6-4 defeat to Gerwyn Price in the final match of the night.
This Thursday, Dobey takes on current world champion Michael Smith in a much anticipated quarter-final clash.
Dobey remains the underdog in the betting, though considering he has won five of the last eight head-to-head encounters, the Englishman is worth backing at 6/4.
