Moment of madness as Ron Meulenkamp busts three-figure score with a 180

Fans at the International Darts Open in Germany were treated to a moment of madness from Ron Meulenkamp who managed to bust 163.

The Dutchman was taking on Ireland's Keane Barry in the opening round of the first European Tour event of the year.

With Meulenkamp already 2-0 down in a race to six, the 33-year-old needed to win the third leg in order to get himself back into contention.

However, instead of setting up a finish from his score of 163, the player miscalculated and hit a 180. Having bust his score, Meulenkamp opened the door for Barry who checked out 82 to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

In the end, the Irishman won 6-2 and progressed to the second round of the event.

Meulenkamp, on the other hand, will hope for a better outing when he returns to action in the German Darts Championship - an event held on March 11 in Hildesheim.
