The Dutchman was taking on Ireland's Keane Barry in the opening round of the first European Tour event of the year.
With Meulenkamp already 2-0 down in a race to six, the 33-year-old needed to win the third leg in order to get himself back into contention.
However, instead of setting up a finish from his score of 163, the player miscalculated and hit a 180. Having bust his score, Meulenkamp opened the door for Barry who checked out 82 to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
In the end, the Irishman won 6-2 and progressed to the second round of the event.
Meulenkamp, on the other hand, will hope for a better outing when he returns to action in the German Darts Championship - an event held on March 11 in Hildesheim.
