Darts news: Commentary legend Nigel Pearson passes away

Nigel Pearson spent 15 years as part of Sky Sports' darts commentary team.

There has been an outpouring of support after the unfortunate passing of Sky Sports darts commentator Nigel Pearson.
Pearson was part of the Sky Sports darts commentary team for the better part of 15 years after joining them in 2006.
"We're all deeply saddened to learn that Nigel has passed away and send our sympathies to all who knew him," said Professional Darts Corporation chief executive Matt Porter.
"Nigel was an extremely popular figure across darts and a range of sports and well-respected throughout the media for his unique style. He'll be missed by us all."
His popularity and the impact he made on the sport can be seen in the volume and amount of emotion in the support following the announcement of the sad news.
Pearson was perhaps best known for his work as a commentator on the darts circuit but was also an experienced speedway commentator.
"The thoughts of everyone at Sky Sports are with Nigel's family and friends," said Sky Sports executive director of content Steve Smith.
"Nigel was a consummate broadcaster with a distinctive voice, loved by our audiences across darts and speedway over many years.
"He brought deep knowledge and expertise to his presenting and commentary and his unique style lifted the sports he covered.
"His passing will be deeply felt by his many friends and colleagues at Sky."
One of the people from the darts world who probably knew him best, fellow commentator Rod Studd, wrote: "The most awful and desperately sad news.
"I have many fond memories of time spent in Pancho's company. My love and condolences to Nigel's family and friends."
