2024 PDC World Darts Championship: Prize money confirmed as Alexandra Palace gears up for showpiece

Gerwyn Price

The 31st edition of the PDC World Darts Championship is upon us as 96 players battle for darting supremacy.

Alexandra Palace will host the world-famous event for the 17th straight year as darting superstars from across the globe congregate in England’s capital.

As well as the prestigious Sid Waddell trophy, players will be battling for a potentially life-changing amount of money.

The prize pot at the worlds will remain the same for the sixth straight year, with £2,500,000 set to be dished out throughout the event.

Michael Smith won the £500,000 winner’s share last year following a thrilling 7-4 victory over Michael Van Gerwen.

Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price and Gerwen himself all won the half-million-pound prize since 2019.

The first ever PDC World Darts Championships – known as the WDC at the time – saw just £64,000 in the prize pot.

Dennis Priestley claimed the £16,000 winner’s prize courtesy of a dominant 6-1 thrashing of Phil Taylor in the final. The Power went on to win the next eight editions of the event as the pot steadily increased.

Taylor became the first player to claim the £100,000 winner’s prize back in 2006 when he demolished Peter Manley 7-0 in the final.

When it comes to the 2024 tournament, reaching the semi-final will be enough to bag £100,000.
