T20 World Cup semi-final India vs England: Tips and suggested bets

England's Phil Salt at the T20 World Cup

India and England face off in Guyana on Thursday afternoon (1530 BST) for the right to go on to another T20 World Cup final and the winner will be the favourite to take the trophy home.

After the group stage and Super Eights, India remain unbeaten, sweeping to six straight wins and avoiding any washouts.

England meanwhile have won three, lost twice and suffered a washout against Scotland which nearly led to their elimination at the group stage.

However, England have shown they can really turn it on when they need to and they have an impressive array of T20 talents at their disposal.

While neither side has touched down in Guyana during this tournament before the last four, India have played here more recently having contested two matches of the T20I series at the ground last August.

England have not played a T20I in Providence since the 2010 T20 World Cup and that was a match that they lost to the hosts West Indies.

These nations faced off in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final and England brought to bear such batting power that it made India adjust their entire T20 cricket philosophy.

England are now just two matches away from becoming the first men’s team to ever retain the T20 World Cup trophy.

India have not won the tournament since the inauguration of the event in South Africa back in 2007. They are also searching for their first World Cup win in any format since 2011.

The Guyana National Stadium is an upgraded 20,000-seater venue that is located on the outskirts of Georgetown in the village of Providence, and it is situated just off the banks of the Demerara River and a few kilometres from the coast.

Generally, the wicket plays slower than others in the Caribbean but it won't be a massive departure from what the teams have experienced so far despite being the only venue under the West Indies umbrella that is on the South American mainland.

India vs England: Suggested bets

While there is a temptation to back Jos Buttler to get runs in a big match like this as skipper, Phil Salt is the man who looks most likely to put England on his back and carry them into the final.

The pacemen have carried India's effort so far with Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah in the wickets.

However, on a turning track like the one in Guyana, you cannot look past the potential of Kuldeep Yadav to do some damage to the England lineup.

Rohit Sharma has been in great form for India but his weakness to the full ball ensures that India are often at risk of seeing him bowled or trapped leg before early on.

Back India to lose their first wicket to a type of dismissal other than caught to cash in on that weakness.

England have the edge in batting power, just slightly, and should be able to clear the rope more often than India.

England are offered at enticing odds to win the battle of the maximums.

Predictions

Phil Salt to top score for England

Kuldeep Yadav to take the most wickets for India

India's first wicket to fall to a dismissal other than caught

England to hit more sixes
