South Africa vs India second Test: Tips and suggested bets

After winning the Boxing Day Test, South Africa will look to claim the two-match series against India at Newlands which starts on Wednesday morning at 0800 (GMT).

India discovered to their detriment that the Proteas' pace attack has incredible depth in the Boxing Day Test, and defeat denied them the chance to win a first Test series in South Africa.

South Africa will have their depth tested again after injuries to Temba Bavuma and Gerald Coetzee. It seems likely that Zubayr Hamza and Wian Mulder will come into the playing XI.

India still has a shot at history as they chase a first-ever win at Newlands in Test cricket.

Since 1993, India have played six Tests at Newlands losing four and playing to two draws. South Africa has played 59 Tests at Newlands in all, winning 27, losing 21, and drawing 11 times.

South Africa vs India second Test: Suggested bets

Dean Elgar will wrap up his career in a Test at Newlands that he will be captain for after the withdrawal of Bavuma.

Elgar is the form batter in the South African top order and by sheer force of will should end up as the leading scorer for his team.

KL Rahul's brilliant first innings hundred didn't really pay off for India, but it showed that he knows how to bat in pace-friendly conditions.

While Newlands has a different character to SuperSport Park, Rahul looks likely to be the man for India.

Jasprit Bumrah claimed a five-fer in his last Test outing at Newlands and is the India bowler who will pose the biggest threat on the Newlands track.

Mohammad Siraj's accuracy will also be challenging to deal with for the South Africans.

With Kagiso Rabada, Nandre Burger and Marco Jansen all bowling well, South Africa have plenty of firepower at their disposal.

Rabada has always enjoyed bowling at Newlands and should be the main wicket threat from the South African side.

Predictions

- Dean Elgar to top score in the series

- KL Rahul to top score for India in first innings

- Kagiso Rabada to take the most wickets for South Africa

- Jasprit Bumrah to take the most wickets for India
