South Africa vs India second Test day two: Tips and suggested bets

Planet Sport offers a few bold tips for the brave punter looking to wade into the markets for the unusual second Test playing out at Newlands.

An incredible first day of action in the second Test between South Africa and India has moved things along considerably, and the risk of rain over the weekend impacting a result is now incredibly slim after Newlands swallowed up 23 wickets to start.

South Africa's decision to bat first looked foolish when they were 55 all out and even worse when India were 153 for 4 with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli getting to be set, but there would still be a twist as India then suffered a remarkable collapse of their own losing seven wickets on the same score of 153.

Six Indian batters were out for ducks, and none made it past 50.

On day two, South Africa will start their dig still 36 behind India and will target batting beyond tea on the second day as the bare minimum to try to make a game of it in the chase.

Given how the pitch has played any target of more than 100 will take some getting but the hosts will want to get that up over 200.

The quality of the bowling paired with a sporting wicket means that this Test is unlikely to go beyond day three and in fact could even be wrapped up before the schedule close of play on the second day.

South Africa vs India second Test day two: Suggested bets

David Bedingham's knowledge of the conditions of Newlands could help him make the most of the match situation to become a Test hero for the Proteas.

Bedingham is quite long to reach 50 on day two but has the right mentality to play at Newlands when it is behaving as aggressively as this.

Despite a poor first innings leaving them with their backs to the wall this match could swing dramatically in the favour of South Africa on day two and an overnight punt on the hosts to win could bag a tidy return.

Another bold punter option is taking on the Aiden Markram Over/Under 99.5 Runs; going over will require a hero's innings from the Proteas star, but he is certainly capable of delivering just that and has a good mixture of attack and defence in his technique.

Bedingham is a good candidate for getting bowled out by someone as deceptive as Mohammad Siraj, which brings up the likelihood of the next dismissal bucking the trend of caught in this match so far.

Predictions

 - David Bedingham to score 50

-  Aiden Markram to score 100

-  Next wicket to be bowled

-  South Africa to win the Test
