West Indies captain Kieron Pollard retires from international cricket

West Indies limited-overs captain Kieron Pollard said he will be "forever be grateful" after announcing his retirement from international cricket after 15 years of service.

Pollard represented the West Indies for over 15 years and made over 224 appearances. The 34-year-old made his international debut in 2007 and went on to be a part of the Windies 2012 World T20 winning team.

Back in 2019, the all-rounder was named as captain of the men's ODI and T20 teams.

Pollard announced his retirement on social media, saying: "After careful deliberation, I have today decided to retire from international cricket.
"As is the case for many young persons, it was a dream of mine to represent the West Indies team from the time I was a boy of 10 years, and I am proud to have represented West Indies cricket for over 15 years in both the T20I and ODI forms of the game.
"In 2019, I was asked by Cricket West Indies to lead both the T20I and ODI West Indies teams, which to date is the highest honour bestowed on me and for which I will forever be grateful.
"As I move on and make room for those who will carry the game forward in West Indian colours, know that I will always be supporting in whatever way I can. It is with profound gratitude for living my dream that I now raise my bat in salute to all that is West Indies cricket."
Pollard scored 2706 runs in one-day internationals and 1569 runs in T20s. The West Indies legend also took 55 wickets, but never played a Test match for the national side.
In a press release, president of Cricket West Indies, Ricky Skerritt, paid tribute to Pollard saying: "On behalf of everyone at CWI I would like to express our thanks to Kieron Pollard for his outstanding service to the West Indies ODI and T20I teams over the past 15 years.
"We respect his decision to retire from international cricket and are especially grateful for the high quality of leadership and commitment he invested in both West Indies teams since his appointment as our white-ball captain in September 2019. We wish him continued success in his career."

Pollard will be in action for London Spirit this summer as The Hundred returns for its second season.
