Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron tips: Dublin set for slobberknocker as Taylor eyes homecoming 2.0

Katie Taylor’s Irish homecoming was ruined by Chantelle Cameron last May. The Bray Bomber now has a chance to set the record straight in one of the most-anticipated female fights of the year.

Since turning pro, Taylor went on a 22-0 run, became a two-weight world champion and sold-out Madison Square Garden. Yet the one thing that always evaded her was a fight in her own country of Ireland.

When that opportunity finally arrived, Chantelle Cameron was there to spoil the occasion and silence the crowd as she picked up a majority decision victory over Ireland’s golden girl.

While the first fight was all about the homecoming and the undisputed super-lightweight titles, this weekend’s rematch is far more personal.

Taylor is out for retribution. Cameron, on the other hand, wants respect.

“I’m the champion and I need to start getting a bit more respect,” the English fighter told the Independent. Does she have a point? Perhaps.

Afterall, we can’t forget who Cameron is. We are dealing with an 18-0 fighter who currently holds all the gold ahead of Saturday’s rematch.

Question is, who is under the most pressure heading to Dublin? Back in May, all the eyes were on Taylor as she attempted to cap off her illustrious career with a home victory.

Due to the size of the occasion for the Irish fighter, we almost forgot that the woman in the opposite corner was an unbeaten champion from the weight division above.

With Taylor now 37-year-old and getting ready for her 18th consecutive world championship bout, what does she have to lose?

Cameron, meanwhile, is not only looking to defend her belts but is also determined to preserve her unbeaten record. She knows that victory would put her on the periphery of boxing superstardom, with more blockbuster fights to come in 2024.

The English fighter has been priced as favourite by most bookmakers as she prepares to enter the lion’s den, consisting of a sold-out 10,000 crowd in Dublin.

The pressure on Cameron is certainly on, but the 32-year-old is not the one to buckle.

Last May, it was the Northampton-born boxer who made the brighter start. In fact, it was her first five rounds which really made the difference.

Taylor came back strong in the second-half of the first fight but knows she can’t afford to wait this time round.

Will lessons be learned? Will the tactics change? There are a lot of questions that need answering in what is a very tough fight to call.

Nevertheless, we’re backing Cameron to go back-to-back against Taylor and secure another decision victory.
