Lara vs Warrington 2: The Leeds faithful can inspire redemption for Warrington

Warrington has a chance of gaining revenge against a Mexican who knocked him out inside nine rounds earlier this year.

Boxing is a funny old game.
At the start of the year, it seemed like Josh Warrington would have a unification fight against Xu Can.

Warrington would then decide to vacate his IBF world title to avoid his mandatory challenger Kid Galahad - a fighter he defeated in 2018 - to ensure he fought Can in the summer.

Gary Russell Jr. was a fighter Warrington also wanted to face. A fight in Las Vegas with the city of Leeds taking over the strip was the plan for 2022.

All Warrington had to do was overcome an unknown Mexican prospect, who the bookmakers had as a huge outsider at 11/1. What could possibly go wrong?

Starting the fight slower than usual, Warrington struggled to adapt to the pace of Lara and by round four he was on the canvas from a left hook.
Despite dragging himself up, the next five rounds would be an uncomfortable watch as Lara continued to be the aggressor. In the ninth round, after hitting the deck again from another left hook by Lara, referee Steve Gray deemed Warrington unable to continue and waved the fight off.
His proposed clash with Can was off and since his defeat to Lara, Leigh Wood defeated the Chinese fighter in the opening weekend of Fight Camp. In doing so, he became just the second fighter from Nottingham after Carl Froch to win a professional world title.

However, Warrington has a chance of redemption and if he can beat Lara in his rematch then he is back in contention for world honours at 126lbs.

Can Warrington avenge his defeat?

Women's most lucrative fighter Katie Taylor is on the undercard. The undisputed lightweight champion will face mandatory challenger Jennifer Han of America.

Taylor - who laces up the gloves for the first time since her barnstormer against Natasha Jonas - collides with an opponent who has won her last eight bouts via unanimous decision. Han has three defeats from 22 bouts.

Taylor is undefeated from 18 professional contests and should outpoint her comfortably.

The rest of the undercard is still being worked on, but Conor Benn has been linked with fighting on the bill.

The welterweight was expected to top Fight Camp's opening weekend alongside Adrian Granados only to test positive for Covid-19 on fight week.
