WWE champion reveals he has been ‘approached’ about boxing Mike Tyson at Madison Square Garden

WWE star Bobby Lashley revealed that he has been “approached” about facing the legendary Mike Tyson in a boxing match at Madison Square Garden.

Lashley has been interviewed ahead of WWE SummerSlam, which takes place on Saturday, July 30 at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

The 46-year-old is currently WWE's United States champion and he previously fought in Bellator between 2014 and 2016.

While talking to Fightful Select, Lashley revealed that he has been asked about fighting 'Iron Mike':

According to the source, Lashley claimed that he was approached 'by a bare knuckle boxing company rep' about the possibility boxing Mike Tyson.

The former WWE champion went on to suggest that Madison Square Garden was mentioned as a possible venue, though talks are not advanced at this stage.

According to Fightful Select, Lashley said it was a feeling out process, and that he'd love to do it, as it'd be an honour to compete against Tyson.

The former heavyweight champion's last fight as a professional was in a losing effort to Kevin McBride back in 2005.

The 56-year-old returned to the ring in July 2020 as he faced former world champion Roy Jones Jr in an eight-round exhibition.

The bout was declared a split draw after the fighters went the distance. Tyson has not fought since, but a clash against Jake Paul has been mentioned.

Lashley meanwhile has a 15-2 record in MMA. His last fight was on Bellator 162 in October 2016.

He beat Josh Appelt via submission in the second round, though he has spent the last few years back in WWE after making his comeback in 2018.

The former WWE champion was previously with the company between 2005 and 2008.
