UFC chief Dana White rues ‘shocking’ Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk delay – ‘welcome to boxing!’

UFC supremo Dana White thinks it’s “shocking” that the world heavyweight unification bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is not yet official.

Fury and Usyk have been in negotiations over a fight throughout this year. The bout was initially expected to take place in Saudi Arabia, but the Brit could not agree his purse with the event organisers.

London's Wembley Stadium has since emerged as the most likely venue, with the bout pencilled in for April 29.

But at the time of writing, Fury vs Usyk has not been announced, even though the proposed fight date is just over five weeks away.

It is widely believed that Fury is at fault for the delay, with him making last-minute demands that key aspects of the deal are altered in his favour.

Speaking at UFC 286 (headlined by Leon Edwards-Kamaru Usman III) Dana White expressed his frustration at how the "big fights" in boxing "never do happen".

"Welcome to boxing boys," the UFC chief said.

"I mean, is it shocking? Yes! Is it shocking? No!
"It's just, that is boxing. It's the way that sport always seems to play out. The big fights that should happen never do, and when they do it's always late.
"That's the stuff that used to drive me crazy as a fan and it's literally part of how I designed this company not to be."

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is worried that Fury will not be "physically ready" to fight on April 29.

"I don't think you need the time to promote it - It's a big enough fight - but time to get ready," Hearn told iD Boxing.

"Tyson Fury physically doesn't look ready for six weeks. But he never has done really, and he's proved everybody wrong before. So maybe he takes the fight.
"I think when you see a tweet like you saw on Saturday [the deadline from Usyk] it's not a good sign, but anything's possible. I hope it gets made."
