Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is set to return to the ring after agreeing to fight fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. on September 12.

“Iron” Mike confirmed his intentions to return on social media earlier this year and it now appears he’ll face Jones in an eight-round exhibition bout with California set to host the showdown.
The pair will trade punches at Dignity Health Sports Park with the battle set to take place on PPV and social media app Trigger. It is also believed they will use bigger gloves with 12 ounces an option.

At a combined age of 105, it has left the boxing fraternity intrigued but also perplexed at the announcement. Tyson, 54, hasn’t laced up a pair of gloves since his 2005 KO defeat to journeyman Kevin McBride while Jones - a former four-division world champion - fought in 2018 and remains involved in the sport as a trainer with Chris Eubank Jr.

Executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, Andy Foster, confirmed the news to Yahoo Sport.“This isn’t a situation where they’re going out there to try to take each other’s heads off.”

Foster told Yahoo Sports. “They’re just going to be in there moving around the ring and letting fans see these legends.”
