Matchroom confirm Sunny Edwards will fight Jesse Rodriguez in flyweight unification bout

Sunny Edwards poses with his belt following the IBF Flyweight World Title match - June 2023

The biggest flyweight fight of the year is 'signed and sealed' according to Matchroom.

Sunny Edwards will square off against Jesse Rodriguez in 2023 after Matchroom announced that the fight is 'signed and sealed'.

Edwards, who is 20-0, won the IBF flyweight title back in April 2021 when he defeated Moruti Mthalane.
The 27-year-old successfully defended his crown four times, defeating Andres Campos in his last outing at Wembley Arena.
Rodriguez, on the other hand, is the current WBO flyweight champion. The 23-year-old boasts an impressive 18-0 record with 11 stoppages to his name.
The American won the WBC super-flyweight title back in February 2022 when he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Carlos Cuadras.
After two successful defences at 115lbs, Rodriguez stepped down in weight and defeated Cristian Gonzalez to take the WBO flyweight crown last April.
Edwards and Rodriguez are now set to go head-to-head this year, with a venue and exact date yet to be confirmed.
