Liam Davies outlasts Ionut Baluta to claim European Junior Featherweight title

Britain's Liam Davies took Romanian Ionut Baluta on at his own game and prevailed in a unanimous points decision win.

Baluta is famous for trying to take his opponents out of their comfort zone and making fights as awkward as possible. He also loves to test his opponent's stamina and make fights last as long as possible.

In Liam Davies, though, he met his match with the Brit making great use of a sharp jab and endless patience to wait for his opportunities and make the most of them when they arose.

While Baluta is unlikely to be the best boxer Davies ever meets in his career, he made for a solid test on the night and the European Junior Featherweight title was just reward for a hard night's work.

On the other hand, the Romanian should be proud of his efforts but needs to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to beat fighters like Davies that don't get lured in so easily.
