Kubrat Pulev puts Derek Chisora loss behind him with comfortable victory over Andrzej Wawrzyk
Two-time world title challenger Kubrat Pulev returned to winning ways on Thursday night with victory over Polish heavyweight Andrzej Wawrzyk.
The Bulgarian, who has endured recent defeats against both Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua, revealed that losing was simply ‘not an option’ ahead of his bout against Wawrzyk.
The 42-year-old backed up his words in the ring as he dominated the 10-round contest in Costa Mesa, USA.
Pulev scored two knockdowns on his way to a 100-88, 100-88 and 99-89 win over his Polish opponent.
This is the Bulgarian’s first win since picking up a unanimous decision over Jerry Forrest back in May 2022. His latest success also improves his record to 30-3, with 14 stoppages to his name.
Pulev lost a split decision against Chisora back in July 2022. This came 20 months after being knocked out by Joshua in the ninth-round of their world title bout.
The heavyweight veteran first challenged for world honours back in November 2014 when he challenged Wladimiar Klitschko in Altona, Germany.
Pulev was dropped in the fifth round by the Ukrainian in his first professional defeat.
While the Bulgarian won’t be in the frame for a third world title opportunity, Thursday’s win over Wawrzyk means we still may see ‘The Cobra’ in competitive action again.
