Idris Virgo brands Carl Froch a ‘coward’ after targeting ‘weakest’ influencer boxer Jake Paul

Former Love Island contestant Idris Virgo has called out former super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch.

Virgo, who defeated Aaron Chalmers inside three rounds in his last outing, has got a number of potential opponents on his radar – including the 46-year-old British boxing legend.

Froch was last in competitive action back in May 2014 when he knocked out George Groves at Wembley Stadium in a blockbuster rematch.

The Cobra caught Virgo’s attention after TNT Sports published a clip of the British boxer commenting on a ‘useless’ Jake Paul performance against Tommy Fury last March.

Fury ultimately won the bout on points, with Froch going on to claim he could knock Paul out inside a couple of rounds.

Virgo told Planet Sport: “He’s a coward because he’s calling out Jake Paul when he knows he’ll beat Jake Paul into next Sunday.

“He’s calling out the weakest person on the influencer scene, and I’m thinking ‘if you’re about that, let’s fight’.

“If you’re calling Jake Paul out, you should be able to fight me. Then I realised he’s all about the clout. Jake Paul’s got more clout than me so it makes more sense, business wise, to fight Jake Paul.

“I’m not disagreeing with that, but at the same time I’m coming off a fantastic win over Aaron Chalmers. Me against Carl Froch would be a great fight.

“He always says he could sell 80,000 seats at Wembley stadium. If that’s the case, let’s go for it.

“I just want to fight Carl Froch. He said something in my DMs as well. I need to put this guy back into retirement. I know he’s in retirement, but he said he wants to fight Jake Paul, so he wants to come out of retirement. I’d love to fight him.”

Unlike many on the influencer boxing scene, Virgo has boxed professionally and boasts a 12-0-1 record. The Bodybreaker paused his in-ring career in order to take part in reality TV show Love Island back in 2018.

The 30-year-old has since returned to the squared circle and competed on two DAZN Misfits cards, defeating Anthony Taylor and the aforementioned Chalmers.
