Frank Warren confirms Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is off; ‘game-changing’ opponent lined up instead

Frank Warren

Queensberry Promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that Tyson Fury will not be fighting Oleksandr Usyk this year.

Tyson Fury's promoter - Frank Warren - has confirmed that the Brit will not be facing Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed fight this year.

Following the shambolic trilogy bout between Fury and Derek Chisora last December, the WBC world heavyweight champion faced off with Usyk at ringside.

This was done to set up an undisputed world title fight, that was initially planned for the start of 2023.
But talks between the two teams broke down after Fury insisted on making outlandish financial demands and setting strict deadlines for Usyk.

With the bout off the table for the beginning of 2023, it was instead expected that it will take place this December in Saudi Arabia as part of a mega-card which also includes Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder.

But Fury's promoter - Warren - has now confirmed to talkSPORT that 'The Gypsy King' will "not be fighting" Usyk in December.

"I'm hoping we'll have an announcement in the next week or so," Warren told talkSPORT.
"We've pretty much done what we want to be doing, but we're not in a position to make the announcement. His fight's done, we can't hang around.

"He will not be fighting on the Skill Challenge show in December because they're talking about their show now being postponed until January."

"I think their head of boxing Amer Abdallah said they'll probably be moving it to the first quarter of 2024, that's up to them.
"Prince Khaled is a fantastic person, I really like him, but in the meantime, we have to move on, we are going to announce something."
Warren continued: "Tyson really wants to fight and we've gotta make it happen. We have to make things happen, we can't wait for people to make things happen.
"We tried to make it happen three times already this year with Usyk, contrary to all of the social media crap, he didn't want it.
"If he'd have wanted it, the fight would've taken place.
"What he wants to do is wait and he thinks he's getting his $70million in Saudi, and I understand that. I absolutely get that, but stop the nonsense that the fight's not happening because of Tyson."
MMA greats Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou have been mentioned as shock potential next opponents for Fury and Warren has teased fans that his next fight will be a "massive game-changer".
"It'll be a bit of a game-changer in a couple of weeks' time," Warren continued.
"It'll be a massive game-changer and it's gonna be interesting to see the fallout from it.
"You'll find out in a couple of weeks. I guarantee you, you'll say to me in a couple of weeks, 'That's a game-changer.'"
