Floyd Mayweather has sent Newcastle United fans into frenzy after confirming his interest in becoming a majority stakeholder of the club.

The 43-year-old is currently embarking on a UK tour and was in town to speak about his achievements in the boxing before host Steve Wraith quizzed the American about taking over the Premier League side.
Replying to Wraith about the prospect of putting in an offer to buy out Mike Ashley, Mayweather said: "In the US we call it soccer but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team.
"If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team let me know."
‘Money’ isn’t his nickname for nothing. Mayweather is boxing’s first to have made $1 billion inside the ring with lucrative paydays against Manny Pacquiao, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Conor McGregor.
On the Forbes rich list of the decade (2010-2020) Mayweather hit top spot with total earnings of $915 million, more than $100 million ahead of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in second place.

As you can imagine, the prospect of Mayweather working alongside Steve Bruce has gassed up social media users.

Mayweather eyes two-fight comeback in 2020

The former five-weight ruler is plotting a sensational return to the ring this year and revealed he wants a $350 million two-fight deal to take on UFC’s Khabib Nurmagomedov and McGregor.

“Once I took over my own career, my first fight I made eight figures,” said Mayweather during his promotional tour.
“I was already making $7 million, $8 million, $8 1/2 million. But as soon as I became my own promoter and my own boss, I made eight figures instantly.”

“From eight figures, we went to making upwards of $32 million per fight. Then I said to myself, ‘It’s not enough.’ So we then went from $32 million to $50 million. Then I said, ‘It’s not enough.’ Then I went from $50 million to $100 million, and I said, ‘It’s not enough.’
“We went from $100 million to $300 million, and I said, ‘It’s not enough.’ Now we’re over $300 million to $350 million, and hopefully, we can make that this year,” added Mayweather.
Perhaps Floyd is lacing up the gloves to help strengthen his bid to take over Newcastle? One thing for sure is, we can't wait to see Mayweather back in action.
