Eddie Hearn rules out a boxing comeback for Tony Bellew

Bellew recently talked up a potential fight against Alexander Povetkin...

Eddie Hearn has reiterated that he would never allow Tony Bellew make a grand comeback to the boxing ring.

In a chat with Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, the duo was discussing the possibility of Bellew making a return to the ring in the future.

It was a very light-hearted chat between the trio, but Hearn confirmed he would never let the “Bomber” lace up a pair of gloves again.

“I won’t let him fight again. [Bellew] said a really good fight for him is Alexander Povetkin. So, I said if Alexander Povetkin beats Dillian Whyte [do] you want to fight Povetkin? He said yeah I’ll have that, but Dillian Whyte is going to knock him out anyway.”

“We have had the conversations. The honest answer is if there was a few quid in it for me, I would let him do it,” Hearn said with laughter.

Bellew made it clear throughout his career that his circle of friends who he associates himself with were a group that would be upfront and honest in any decision he makes.

This has continued since retirement, and Hearn insisted that none of Bellew’s friendship group, including himself, would approve of him having another fight.

“Rach [Bellew’s Wife] definitely wouldn’t, I definitely wouldn’t, Gary Disley [Bellew’s manager] definitely wouldn’t, and Dave Coldwell definitely wouldn’t. So other than that it is going really well for you – you better get a new team!”

Life after boxing

Bellew and Hearn are known for having one of the best fighter-promoter relationships of recent times in British boxing. in all of boxing.
During the pandemic, Hearn and Bellew have hosted several podcasts, such as Talk the Talk - a six-episode installment which finished with UFC mogul Dana White as the final guest.

It's repeat as Bellew beats Haye for a second time in 2018

Bellew last fought in November 2018 against Oleksandr Usyk at the Manchester Arena for all four major world titles. The Liverpudlian gave a respectable account of himself and started off bright but ultimately faded in the second-half of the fight and got knocked out in the eighth round.
It put an end to a phenomenal career which saw the Briton defeat David Haye twice and win the WBC cruiserweight world title at Goodsion Park - home to his beloved Everton Football Club

Bellew retired with a record of 30-3-1 with 20 of his wins coming inside the distance.

It is understandable that former fighters get the bug to return to the sport after having a great career. Carl Froch has previously flirted about returning while Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield seem open to a trilogy bout
However, Bellew has been keeping himself busy having recently been on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Win as well as doing punditry work for Sky Sports and managing up-and-coming prospects Craig Glover and Thomas Whittaker.
