Eddie Hearn hints at two potential opponents for Conor Benn in a 'massive' return fight

Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn has revealed two potential next opponents for Conor Benn, who could return to the ring in September.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed two potential opponents for Conor Benn's fight on September 23.

Benn has been out of the ring since April 2022, when he stopped experienced American Chris Algieri in devastating fashion.

The Brit was due to face Chris Eubank Jr in a huge all-British mega-fight last year, but this was cancelled after Benn returned a positive drug test. He tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene.

Over the past nine months, Benn has been battling to prove his innocence and a hearing is currently being held to see whether he will be cleared of any wrongdoing. This could free him to fight in the UK before the end of this year.
A fight was initially pencilled in for Benn in Abu Dhabi, but Hearn has revealed that he wants him to return in the UK this September "if he is cleared".

Talks have been ongoing over rescheduling the Eubank fight, but he may face Liam Smith in a rematch instead. If this happens, Hearn has revealed that Manny Pacquiao and Josh Taylor are potential opponents.

"September. If he's cleared he will fight September 23rd. A f***ing massive fight," Hearn said.

"Could be Manny Pacquiao. Could be Josh Taylor. I love the Josh Taylor fight. Do we push it into October? Maybe. Eubank is ready to fight September 23rd.
"The whole world has called out Connor Benn so if we don't get Chris Eubank it's not the end of the world. That's just a great fight.
"A massive fight for both of them. But till I get this piece of paper [clearing Benn], I can't tell you."
