Dereck Chisora vs Joseph Parker: Can the veteran beat New Zealand's finest heavyweight?

Dereck Chisora is aiming to get back to winning ways against Joseph Parker following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk last time out.

Dereck Chisora takes on Joseph Parker in a highly-anticipated heavyweight bout on Saturday at the Manchester Arena.

Both fighters are keen to get into world-title contention and victory is a must if they want to challenge the likes of Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua.

Former WBO champion Parker, 29, has gone on a four-fight winning streak since his unanimous decision loss to Dillian Whyte in 2018.

He has beaten Carlos Takam, Andy Ruiz Jr and Hughie Fury during his career and held the WBO strap for 15 months before losing it to Joshua.

Chisora, meanwhile, is looking for an immediate return to winning ways following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk on points last time out.

The Briton looked dangerous against the former cruiserweight king but couldn't get close enough to land a knockout blow.

Both Dereck Chisora and Joseph Parker have lost to Dillian Whyte in recent years

His last victory was against David Price in October 2019 and he holds a record of 32-10 (23 KOs).
The fight was originally scheduled to take place two years ago but Parker had to pull out after falling ill due to a spider bite.
The duo have been friendly in the buildup, even meeting up for a pre-fight breakfast.
However, Chisora insists that won't be the case once they meet in the ring: "A bit of banter, reading your opponent, seeing what he thinks.
"I'm still having a laugh and a joke now but, tomorrow, you'll know what time it is."

Parker is hoping to benefit from the expertise of Andy Lee in his corner. The trainer helped Fury to secure a devastating win over Deontay Wilder last year and is aiming for a similar result this time around.

When asked if he would implement the same style of all-out attack as Fury, Parker said: "I'll do a bit of both. I'm no Tyson Fury. I fight differently. We have a good game-plan."

But Chisora hit back, stating: "You can't compare Parker to Fury. Fury is a different beast! Fury lives fighting, he loves fighting, he was born fighting.
"Parker is totally different."
Chisora is a renowned knockout artist who will be hoping to continue that trend against the New Zealander. His wins over Artur Szpilka and Takam were especially brutal.
Parker, who has a record of 28-2 (21 KOs), has only ever lost in the UK. He hasn't fought any big names since 2018 - he will need a solid performance to beat Chisora and get back into the world-title game.

Where and when?

Chisora vs Parker is scheduled for 12 rounds on Saturday, May 1 at the Manchester Arena, UK.

Where can I watch it?

The fight is available on Sky Sports Box Office for £19.95.

What's on the Line?

The winner should have the chance to face heavyweight's biggest names, such as Fury, AJ and Wilder. The loser may struggle to get back into world-title contention.

Where's the value?

It's a hard fight to call. Parker is on a winning streak and will go into the ring high in confidence. He's a former world champion after all, something Chisora has never managed.

Both fighters' chins will be tested as they have recorded an impressive 44 knockouts between them. Parker himself has never been knocked out, losing via unanimous decision both times.
Chisora will want to put him under pressure with some big right hands early on, which could upset the Auckland man.

On Sky Bet, Chisora is 6/4 to win the fight and 3/1 to win via knockout.

Parker is 4/7 to win and 9/4 to win via knockout.

Who else is on the card?

Co-headlining the event will be Katie Taylor and Natasha Jonas, who are scheduled to fight at around 9pm. Taylor is aiming to continue her domination of the lightweight division, in which she holds all four of the major belts.

Also on the stacked card is WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. The Russian will defend his world title against Craig 'Spider' Richards.

Chris Eubank Jr faces Marcus Morrison in an all-British middleweight clash. Eubank Jr needs a win if he is to challenge pound-for-pound king Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in the future.

Campbell Hatton, the son of Manchester legend Ricky Hatton, will appear professionally for just the second time. He is set to take on London-born fighter Levi Dunn.
