Conor McGregor claims interest in buying Chelsea but how much is he worth?

Conor McGregor sent fans wild on social media last night by claiming his interest in buying the Premier League club.

Conor McGregor has told fans that he wants to buy Chelsea from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
The European champions are up for sale and it is believed Abramovich wants £3billion for the club.
Swiss businessman Hansjorg Wyss is already preparing a consortium ahead of Friday's deadline to make a bid.

And it seems like McGregor fancies his chances of taking over at Stamford Bridge - one year after declaring interest in buying Manchester United.

"I wish to explore this," McGregor tweeted with a photo of him replying to a message that said 'let's buy this'.
The Irishman followed his tweet up with a video captioned 'push it to the limit'.

What is Conor McGregor worth?

The question is, can McGregor afford it?

In 2021, the former UFC king was named as Forbes' Highest Paid Athlete of the Year, beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In total, he made $180million, with $158million from endorsements outside of competing.

McGregor sold the majority of his Proper 12 Whiskey shares in April 2021 and it is believed the deal is worth up to $600million.
His biggest payday in sport was his crossover bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

McGregor was paid $100million for the fight although Eddie Hearn claims Dana White's UFC received 50% of the purse for allowing McGregor to break his UFC contract to face Mayweather.
However, his average payday in the UFC is at around £20million and according to Celebrity Net Worth, his worth is estimated at around £135million.
It may not be quite enough for him to buy Chelsea outright but he could always front a consortium and be the face of it.
But with McGregor focused on a return to the UFC this summer, we are going to take his claims with a pinch of salt.
