All you need to know about four fights on April 9, including Gennadiy Golovkin and Ryan Garcia

Gennadiy Golovkin, Mikaela Mayer and Ryan Garcia are all in action on April 9 and below, we provide you with all of the information, so you don’t miss a fight.

One day after turning 40, Gennadiy Golovkin returns to the ring, ending a 16-month absence as he takes on home favourite Ryota Murata.

Since his 2018 defeat to Canelo Alvarez, the Kazakh great has been largely inactive, fighting just three times and that includes a close win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko to become IBF middleweight world champion.

Golovkin is back in action looking to unify once again at 160lbs but the question is: How much does he have left in the tank? GGG is adamant that he will produce a career-best performance and should he win, a trilogy bout against Canelo Alvarez is on the agenda for September.

"There are advantages and drawbacks that come with age," Golovkin said. "I see all the changes as positive. I get smarter, I get more experienced and age gives me an additional edge.

"Time flies and the older you get the faster it goes. I continue to stick to my traditional training approach and when we get in the ring, we'll see the results.
"I wouldn't point out any particular goal that I'm still trying to achieve. I've achieved a lot and learned a lot during my career. I feel very comfortable in my current position.
"I've been in boxing pretty much throughout my entire life. I feel in top form and if there is demand, if there are interesting offers, you'll continue to see me in the ring."

What time is the fight?

The card will start at 05:10 ET / 10:10 GMT. Ringwalk times for the main event will be at around 08:10 ET / 13:10 GMT.

What is on the line?

The fight - which is taking place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan - is for the WBA and IBF middleweight world titles.

What TV channel is it on?

The whole card is live and exclusive to DAZN subscribers across 200 countries with the exception of Japan, South Korea and Kazakhstan. It includes the UK and US.
For Japan fans, they will be able to access the fight night on Amazon Prime.

Ryan Garcia vs Emmanuel Tagoe

WBC

Garcia will make his highly-anticipated return against Ghanian fighter Tagoe in Texas.

The lightweight contender has been out of the ring since January 1, 2021, when he overcame Luke Campbell in an epic fight. Garcia took time out to focus on his mental health before his comeback got postponed due to injuries sustained.

Garcia has left Eddy Reynoso - trainer of Canelo - and joined Joe Goossen to create a new chapter in his career.

"I did a lot of great things in those five fights that I had with Eddy [Reynoso]," Garcia told ESPN.
"And I'm grateful for it. And this new chapter is obviously my chapter, right? Now it's time for me to come into my own."

What time is the fight?

The card will begin at 09:00 ET / 02:00 GMT with ringwalk times for Garcia and Tagoe at 11:00 ET / 04:00 GMT.

What is on the line?

There is no title on the line but for Garcia, it's an opportunity to dust off the cobwebs and get back into lightweight contention. For Tagoe, he has the chance to deliver a huge upset and become a big name.

What TV channel is it on?

Fans can watch the whole card on DAZN worldwide, including the UK and US.

Mikaela Mayer vs Jennifer Han

Mikaela Mayer is hoping to set up a potential unification bout later this year but first, she must come through Jenifer Hann in California.

The American is undefeated from 16 bouts and admits, she knew her time would come despite the challenges women's boxing has faced over the years.

"I always knew deep down that I would be a big player in this game and that I would have a career in boxing," Mayer said.
"Even though there was no market for it, it's just something where I always had a belief that I would be able to accomplish it.
"Women's boxing is so popular right now and thriving, so to be a part of this generation is amazing. There's still a lot to be done, but we've come a long way."

What time is the fight?

The main card will air at 10:00 ET / 02:00 GMT and fans can see the main event at 11:15 ET / 03:15 GMT as long as the undercard fights go according to plan.

What is on the line?

Mayer is defending her IBF and WBO junior lightweight titles.

What TV channel is it on?

ESPN and ESPN+ have the rights in the US while Sky Sports will broadcast the entire card in the UK.

Erickson Lubin vs Sebastian Fundora

The two 154lb prospects will go toe-to-toe in Los Angeles with an aim of entering the world title picture.
For Lubin, he has already challenged for world honours but was on the receiving end of a first-round defeat to Jermell Charlo in 2017. However, he has rebuilt himself and is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak.
Lubin believes the fight will be 'fan friendly'. "I think he's a very tough challenge for anybody in the division," the 26-year-old said.
"He comes to fight and is always in tremendous shape. Fundora is tall and rangy but likes to fight in close quarters, which should make for a fan friendly and exciting fight.
"I'm in the best shape of my life and I know he's going to be at his best for this fight. On April 9, I will not be denied."
Fundora, meanwhile, is undefeated from 19 bouts and defeated Sergio Garcia on points last year. Considering his height (6ft 5ins), it is remarkable that he is able to make the weight limit at junior middleweight.

On the undercard, Tony Harrison will face Sergio Garcia at junior middleweight, also looking to climb back up the rankings having previously defeated Charlo for the WBC title before losing the rematch in 2019.

What time is the fight?

The main card in Las Vegas will get underway from 10:00 ET / 02:00 GMT and the main event ringwalks are scheduled for 11:15 ET / 03:15 GMT.

What's on the line?

World title contention at junior middleweight for the winners of both fights.

What TV channel is it on?

In the US, it will be on Showtime while Fite TV have the UK rights.
